Tehran’s Nature Bridge

Tabiat Bridge, one of the prominent symbols of Tehran, is a two-story pedestrian bridge located in Abbasabad. It crosses the Modares Highway and connects Taleghani Park in the east and Ab-o-Atash Park in the west.

History and Design:

  • The study work for Tabiat Bridge began in 2009.
  • This bridge was built under the supervision of Abbasabad Renovation Company and was inaugurated on October 10, 2014.
  • Leila Iraqian participated in the design competition for this bridge in 2008 and her design was selected in 2009.
  • The company’s experts considered several important issues in the design of this bridge.
  • The first priority was to pay attention to environmental issues in the design of this bridge.
  • Given that Tabiat Bridge is located at a point where all the capital’s highways such as Modares, Hemmat, Haqqani and Resalat highways are clearly visible from the top of this bridge, its location is also of great importance.
  • This bridge is an organically designed structure resembling a tree and is completely compatible with the environment and nature.
  • Similar examples have been built in national and natural parks in France, Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, Malaysia and Australia.
  • The tree-like form of the columns and the choice of the name “Nature” for the bridge both emphasize the continuity of two green spaces (two natures) by the bridge.

Size and specifications:

  • The length of this bridge is 300 meters and the weight of its structure is 2000 tons.
  • Tabiat Bridge is considered the largest non-vehicular bridge in Iran.
  • Tabiat Bridge has an area of 7000 square meters.
  • The width of the bridge varies between 6 meters and 13 meters at different points.
  • Tabiat Bridge has 3 floors.
  • It is planned to create various recreational spaces on the third floor, from exhibitions and coffee shops to galleries and various restaurants, as an attractive tourist destination.
  • Anticipating pause spaces on the bridge and designing appropriate urban furniture that is in harmony with the characteristics of this structure are among the points that have been considered in the design of this bridge.

Facilities:
There are spaces with cultural, recreational and tourist functions along the bridge, such as a coffee shop, restaurant, gallery cafe, and also a cultivated green space.
Tabiat Bridge Restaurants and Cafes: There are several food courts on the bridge where you can enjoy eating and watching the city from the bridge.

  • Melal Restaurant: Melal Restaurant is located on the western part of the bridge (Water and Fire Park). It has a diverse and very popular self-service breakfast. This large and spacious restaurant also includes an Italian and fast food menu.
  • Rah Chobi Food Court: Another Rah Chobi Food Court is located south of the Water and Fire Park. The wooden path is not located on the bridge, but its quality and great variety make many people choose this place for a delicious meal.
  • Tabiat Bridge Food Court: It has a collection of different restaurants. Restaurants with different menus of Western, Iranian, fast food, etc. Good music, reasonable prices, and the right to choose to sit in the hall or in the open air are some of the positive features of the Tabiat Bridge food court.
Since the bridge is built at a high altitude from the ground, you don’t have to worry about the noise of the highway. Because it is almost impossible for these sounds to reach your ears and bother you.
Don’t forget that the Ab-o-Atash and Taleghani parks on both sides of the Tabiat Bridge in Tehran can also be a good destination for a refreshing and energetic picnic day.
