El Goli Park, Tabriz

One of the most famous tourist and recreational places in Tabriz is the El Goli Park or Garden. Today, this park has become one of the symbols of the city of Tabriz.

Introduction:
El Goli Park or Shah Goli is located 7 kilometers from the city center and in the southeast of Tabriz.
This park, which has an area of ​​70 hectares, has a unique lake with dimensions of 200 meters by 200 meters and an area of ​​54,675 square meters.
The park lake has a capacity of 720,000 cubic meters of water and its depth at its deepest point is 12 meters.
In Turkish, the word “Gol or Gul” means pool. Shah Goli or El Goli means the king’s pool or the people’s pool.
Tabriz El Goli Park
History:
In the middle of the pool that was named, there is a building that can only be accessed from the southern part of the park.
At that time, the park pool was the largest source of water storage for the gardens in the eastern regions of Tabriz.
The pool’s water is supplied in the form of a stream from one of the Lighvan rivers that passes near the village of Chavan.
During the Safavid era, the sand inside the pool was removed and a wall was built around the pool instead.
During the Qajar era, walkways were built around the pool and trees and flowers were planted around the pool.
These changes were made thanks to the efforts of Ghahraman Mirza, Abbas Mirza’s son, and this place became a place for Qajar princes to walk and explore.
During the Pahlavi era, this place was made available to the municipality for public use.
In 1346, Seyyed Baqer Kazemi, the governor of Tabriz, built an octagonal Farangi mansion to replace the brick building that was located there.
This mansion is built in the shape of a peninsula in the center of the pool.
The El Goli mansion is built in two floors and in the shape of an octagon.
A small and beautiful dome is located on top of the mansion.
The Tabriz El Goli Park Mansion was registered in the National Monuments List of Iran in 2008.
Amenities and Recreational Facilities:
Boating: Due to the large pool in this park, you can choose from a variety of pedal and motor boats. Of course, in the cold seasons of the year, this pool freezes at certain times.
Cycling: In addition to the special cycling path, this park has places for renting bicycles.
Sleigh Rides: One of the attractive pastimes of El Goli Park is renting bicycles and touring inside the park.
Skating Hall: For those interested in skating, there is a modern skating hall called Saiman Skating Hall inside the Pars Hotel, which is located in the southern part of El Goli Park.
Sundial: A spectacular sundial was placed in the park in 2014. This clock has an accuracy of about 5 minutes. One of the interesting features of the clock is that it shows the noon call to prayer along with the Qibla. This clock also has the ability to show the height of the sun in different months of the year.
Restaurant and coffee shop: The Kolah Farangi mansion building has now been converted into a restaurant where you can visit for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast in this restaurant is self-service. There is also a coffee shop on the second floor of the building. This coffee shop has a very beautiful view and atmosphere.
Other facilities such as a zoo, sledding and playground equipment are available in this park.
