Shapouri Bridge, Khorramabad

Shapouri Bridge or Broken Bridge of Khorramabad is one of the architectural masterpieces of the Sassanid period, located on the southern side of Falak-ol-Aflak Castle.

Introduction:
Shapouri Bridge of Khorramabad is also known as Broken Bridge.
This bridge dates back to the Sassanid period, as it was the connecting factor between Susa and Hegmataneh.
Other uses of the bridge were water supply and distribution.
This bridge, with a length of 330 meters, is considered one of the largest stone bridges in Iran.
The Broken Bridge used to have 28 arches, of which 5 arches have now been preserved from natural elements.
In 1975, this building was registered in the list of national monuments of Iran.
The best time to travel to this area and visit the bridge is spring.

Architecture:
The Broken Bridge is 330 meters long and 10 meters high.
Initially, this bridge consisted of 28 arches and 27 piers, of which only 5 arches remain today.
Each pier has a surface area of ​​61 meters and the distance between two piers is 7.5 meters.
The arches are designed as a trellis, and the piers and breakwaters are in the shape of hexagonal rhombuses and made of stone.
The materials used in the construction of the bridge include stone, plaster, and mortar, which were obtained from river stones.
The bridge floor is made of red paving stones that have become unusable due to water erosion.
