Safavid Bridge, Khorramabad

Safavi Bridge of Khorramabad
The Safavi Bridge is one of the historical monuments of Khorramabad, dating back to the Safavid era and located in the city center.

Introduction:
The Safavi Bridge of Khorramabad is also known as the Brick Bridge, the New Bridge, the Mohseniyeh Bridge, and in the local language, the Gap (Big) Bridge.
This bridge is located in the center of Khorramabad and on the Khorram Rud River.
In fact, the Safavi Bridge connects the western part of the city to its eastern part.
There is no precise historical information about this bridge.
However, some believe that it was built during the time of Shah Sultan Hussein Safavi.
The bridge is more than 350 meters long and 8.5 meters wide.
Materials such as lime and plaster were used in the construction of the bridge, and bricks were used in its foundations.
The structure of this bridge has many similarities to the Khaju Bridge in Isfahan, and like it, it had a royal residence in the middle of the structure.
This royal residence used to reach the lower level of the bridge through brick steps, but it has now been destroyed by flooding.
During the Qajar era, the Safavid Bridge was called the New Bridge, compared to the older Shapouri Bridge.
This historical bridge was registered in the National Monuments of Iran in 1378.
Currently, the bridge path has been converted from a carriageway to a sidewalk and is a suitable place for walking.
