Qeshm Geopark Museum
Introduction:
In addition to its strategic location in the region, Qeshm Island has diverse nature, special habitats, and various geological phenomena.
The diversity of the island’s ecosystem has led to the creation of different habitats and biodiversity.
The Qeshm Geopark Museum houses more than 300 animal specimens, most of which are native to the region.
All animals in this museum have been taxidermied by Professor Reza Parsa.
Among the most interesting specimens in the museum are the existence of the smallest mammal, the pygmy insectivore, and the skeleton of the largest mammal, the humpback whale, both of which belong to Qeshm Island.
In part of the museum, the life of early humans on Qeshm Island has been simulated.
Also, the geosites of Darreh Satargan, Mangrove Forest, Namakdan Cave, and the hawksbill turtle nesting beach have been simulated.
In the paleontology section, fossils of shells and bivalves as well as precious stones of the region are visible.
In the anthropology section, the rich culture of the island’s natives is examined.
Local clothes, handicrafts, and local instruments can be seen in this section.

History:
The UNESCO Geological Department first introduced a geopark network consisting of 4 European countries in 2000.
The purpose of creating this network is to protect geosites and their sustainable development.
Currently, 147 members from 41 countries are members of this network.
Qeshm Global Geopark is one of the first geoparks in this global network.
This network was registered in 2006 with an area of 300 square kilometers on Qeshm Island.
In 2017, the area of this network was increased to 2063 square kilometers.
So that in addition to the entire Qeshm Island, the mangrove forests and Hengam Island were also included in the Geopark.
The geological, natural and cultural attractions of Qeshm are known in the form of 25 geosites.
One of these geosites is the Qeshm Geopark Museum.
The Qeshm Geopark Museum began its activities in 2005.
At the beginning of the museum’s activity, assistance was taken from the assets of the Qeshm Wildlife Museum, which had been operating since 1998.
