Portuguese Castle in Qeshm

The Portuguese Castle of Qeshm is a remnant of the time when the Portuguese colonized parts of the islands and coasts of the Persian Gulf and have now become historical attractions.
Introduction:
The Portuguese Castle of Qeshm was built by order of the Portuguese navigator Alfonso Alberque in 1507.
The castle was excavated in 1378 by Ehsan Yaghmaei.
However, in 1379, following an earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale, the excavation of the eastern wall of the castle failed.
A number of Chinese porcelain, Venetian glass, and war cannons were found in these excavations.
This castle, with an area of 2,000 square meters, is built of materials such as mortar, limestone, and gypsum.
The various parts of the castle include barracks rooms, a church, a prison, a large water tank, weapons depots, a hall, and a command headquarters.
The main use of the castle was as a large warehouse for storing ammunition and weapons.
It also supported the Lark and Hormuz fortresses in times of need.
The Portuguese castle’s water was supplied by rainwater and wells, which were stored in the ponds by underground channels.
This castle was captured by the Iranians during the Safavid period by Imam Qoli Khan, Sardar Shah Abbas.
