In the past, baths played a very important role in the cultural exchanges of the society. Today, baths are also of great importance both architecturally and culturally. The Bathhouse of the Rahnan Historical Museum is one of the beautiful and large baths of Isfahan, which we will learn more about in this article.

Rahnan Bathhouse
Introduction:
The historical bathhouse of Rahnan is located in the west of Isfahan, in the Rahnan neighborhood.
The Rahnan Bathhouse is the third largest bathhouse in Iran, after the Hamadan Castle Bathhouse and the Four Seasons Bathhouse in Arak.
In recent years, this bathhouse has been renovated and restored, and parts of it have been open to the public.
Since 2016, symbols and sculptures related to traditional Iranian rituals have been placed in each corner of the bathhouse. Rituals such as the Chele Bari Bathhouse, the Wedding Bathhouse, the Gulrizan Bathhouse, and the End of Mourning have been exhibited in this bathhouse.
This historical monument was registered in the list of national monuments of Iran in 1968.
Rahanan Bathhouse
History:
The Rahanan Historical Bathhouse Museum, with an area of more than 1400 square meters, has 2 large and small baths for separate and simultaneous use by men and women. For this reason, it was also called the twin bathhouse.
The Rahanan Historical Bathhouse Museum is about 240 years old and dates back to the Zand dynasty.
Haj Agha Mohammad Rahanani, the then ruler of Isfahan, built this bathhouse next to the bazaar and the Zhogbeltin Mosque.
Some narrations state that the small bathhouse was built during the Safavid era and Haj Agha Mohammad added the large bathhouse to it during the Zand dynasty.
Rahanan Bathhouse was active until 1375 and was used as a public bathhouse.
Architecture:
Rahanan Historical Bathhouse is of great architectural importance.
The entrance to the bathhouse is a beautiful vestibule that leads to the top of the bathhouse through a winding corridor. These corridors were common in traditional baths and were built to regulate the temperature inside and outside the bathhouse.
This bath has a dome cover supported by 16 stone and brick columns.
The images of these columns are reflected in the 8 basins of the bath, which is why this bath is also known as the Chehelsotun Bath.
The historical bath of Rahnan is the only bath in Iran that has a Shabestani plan.
There are two royal residences in the warmest part of the bath, the large hot tub.
The space of the bath’s binet is square, measuring 20 meters by 20 meters. There is a large square basin in it that is divided into 4 directions from the middle.
The changing platform is located in the middle of the binet and the corridors are around it.
The walls of the binet are covered with plaster and lime decorations with Islamic and geometric designs.
The skylights in the arch of the bath have given extraordinary beauty to the space of the bath.
