Golestan Dam, 8 kilometers west of Mashhad, is still standing, and its water level has increased again in recent years.

Introduction:
Golestan Dam is located on the Mashhad-Torqaba road in a narrow valley.
The valley is surrounded by huge rocks that become narrower than its width.
The supporting rock of this dam is made of granite and granodiorite.
The materials used in the construction of the dam include bricks, stones, and mortar.
The length of the dam starts from 30 meters at the base and reaches 130 meters at its crown.
Its width is also 10 meters at the top and about 25 meters at the bottom.
The useful volume of this dam is about 1.5 million cubic meters.
This dam is a gift from Ali ibn Musa al-Reza (AS).

History:
The age of this building dates back to the Timurid period, about 500 years ago.
The purpose of building this dam was to irrigate downstream agricultural lands.
There are different opinions about the builder of this building.
Some believe that Shahrokh, the son of Timur Gorkani, built the building, but some say that this building belongs to his wife Goharshad Begum.
In 1972, renovations were carried out to increase the capacity of the dam and its height was increased by 6 meters.
The restoration of this dam by the Khorasan Water Company began in 2010, and after the project is completed, this dam will be reopened for public viewing.
