Gohar Lake, Khorramabad

Lake Gohar Khorramabad, known as the Jewel of the Zagros, hosts about 70,000 tourists annually.

Introduction:
Lake Gohar Khorramabad is located 35 kilometers from the city of Drood in a mountainous area.
Literally, Gohar means water collected in a hollow.
This lake is located among the Oshtrankoh mountains, which are known as the Iranian Alps, at an altitude of 2,350 meters.
Gohar is considered one of the largest freshwater lakes in Iran.
The lake’s water is also very clear and transparent, so that in some areas you can see fish.
The lake’s water is supplied from the Tapleh River and its bed is rocky and in some areas it has a sandy shore.
The lake consists of two parts, called Kalle Gohar Lake (the upper lake) and Kore Gohar Lake (the lower lake).
The Big Gohar Lake is about 85 hectares in area and between 4 and 28 meters deep, so it is not recommended for swimming.
The lake is small but has an area of ​​5 hectares and a depth of 2 meters, which is suitable for bathing and swimming.
Reaching the lake requires a 40-minute walk through the diverse vegetation of the area.
This vegetation includes oak, almond, willow, pistachio, elm, plane, hawthorn trees and flowers such as anemones, irises, tulips, etc.
The wildlife of the area also includes animals such as leopards, wolves, boars, goats, rams, bears, foxes, hyenas, rabbits, eagles, etc.
The climate of this area is cold and cool, so the best time to travel to the lake is in the summer.
On the west side of the lake, platforms for accommodation, security, and a supermarket have been planned for the welfare of tourists.
Among the recreation that can be done in this area are fishing (with a fishing license, of course), boating, swimming, and bathing.

History:
According to strong probability, Gohar Lake was formed by a major earthquake.
Because today we know that this lake is located on the main Zagros fault.
According to reliable historical documents, the first person to discover Gohar Lake was an Austrian geologist named A. Rudler.
Rudler was able to record his name in history as the discoverer of the lake in 1888.
But the person who made this lake famous on a global scale was an English woman named Isabella Lucy Bishop.
This person walked thousands of kilometers for 3 months and the result of her research was the recognition of the lake.
The first and oldest photo of Gohar Lake belongs to a French tourist named Jean-Jacques Demorgan in 1891.

Other information:
To reach Gohar Lake, you can choose two routes:

First route:

Exit from Darud towards Darb Astana village and then, after a distance of 17 kilometers, you will reach Chesme Khiveh.

It is about 18 kilometers from Chesme Khiveh to the lake, so you have to park your car and walk or travel this route on foot or by mule.

This route is highly secure but longer.

Second route:

After passing through Aligudarz city and a distance of 65 kilometers, pass through the villages of Zazm, Barm, Khan Abad and Chesme Par.

Then you will reach a plain where you continue for another 20 kilometers until you reach Tapleh Hill.

Park your car here and walk 7 kilometers to reach Tayan village and then the lake.

This route is shorter but according to some, it is less secure.
