The Green Dome is one of the historical, visible and beautiful monuments of the Safavid period located in Mashhad.
The Green Dome of Mashhad
History:
There is no exact information about who was buried in the Green Dome.
However, everyone agrees that this person is a Shiite scholar.
It is most likely that it was a person named Sheikh Mohammad Momin, about whom a book has been published by Mehdi Qurban.
This book has been translated into English and Arabic. (The book is there)
However, some say that Sheikh Mohammad Momin, the Arist Astar Abadi, one of the sheikhs and mystics of the Zahabi dynasty, is buried there.
He lived during the time of Shah Abbas II Safavid.
He spent 36 years of his life studying and comparing the narrations of the four Shiite books, which shows his devotion to the Ahl al-Bayt and the Infallibles (AS).
In the present century, some believe that Muhammad Ali Muezzin, who was also a Zahabi sheikh, is buried there.
He was the twenty-ninth ruler of the Zahabi dynasty.
Architecture:
This building dates back to the Safavid period.
At that time, it was located in a cemetery called Mirhawa, of which nothing remains now.
Its architecture is Iranian and Islamic.
Its dome is a greenish turquoise that shows more green color during the night.
It is known as the Green Dome because of its green color.
The space inside the dome is decorated with beautiful tiles with Iranian and Islamic motifs.
This dome is located on an octagonal building.
There is an inscription in the Thuluth script under the dome.
On the inscription is written Salavat Kabira and a hadith from the Prophet (PBUH) showing the date 1058 AH.
There is a stone tablet on the grave inside the building, which, although broken, reads:
“The year of the history of this blessed building / The house of the faithful heart”
This beautiful historical dome was registered as one of the national monuments of Iran on May 25, 1977, with registration number 1370.
Location:
Previously, this building was on the outskirts of the city inside a large garden.
The Mirhava cemetery is in the east, the old citadel is in the west, and the Tekkeh of Seyyed Ismail Shah Heydari, also known as Teke Shah, is located nearby.
Once, this garden was the Khanqah of Sufyan.
Gradually, with the expansion of the city, the garden and the annexations and walling around this building have disappeared, and only a small part of it remains today.
