Kerman Grand Mosque

The Grand Mosque of Kerman, built around 750 AH, is one of the important and valuable buildings of Iranian-Islamic architecture. Amir Mubariz al-Din Mohammad Mozaffar Meybodi is one of the kings of the Al-Muzaffar dynasty, and the construction of this mosque is attributed to his reign. This is why the original name of the mosque is the Grand Mosque of Mozaffar.

Introduction:
The Grand Mosque of Kerman is currently 700 years old.
It is said that this mosque was built outside the city and after many years, the city grew larger and embraced this valuable mosque.
During the reign of Shah Abbas II, a person named “Shahrukh Nami” restored this historic mosque.
The east-facing entrance of the mosque was damaged by the cannon fire of Agha Mohammad Khan Qajar, but it was later repaired and rebuilt.
In October 1978, a group of elements affiliated with the Pahlavi government set fire to the Grand Mosque of the city, after which the mosque was restored again.
This building was registered on March 12, 1315 AH, with the number 276, in the National Monuments List of Iran.

This mosque is in the group of four-porch mosques.
The mosque has a high and magnificent porch, porch, nave, minaret, and a very beautiful courtyard.
The large and tall porch with its interesting tiling is very similar to the Grand Mosque of Yazd.
The Mozaffari Grand Mosque of Kerman has three entrance doors located on the western, eastern, and northern sides.
The dimensions of the courtyard of the mosque are 66.5 meters by 49 meters.
The mosaic tiling of the mihrab and the eastern entrance of the mosque is considered one of the unique parts of this mosque.

The tomb of Mullah Boman Ali Raji Kermani, a famous Persian-speaking poet of the Ahl al-Bayt, the author of the poetry collection “Hamla Haydari”, is located behind the mihrab on the western side of the mosque.
This mosque is located near the Ganjali Khan complex.
Professor Pope also mentioned the mosque as one of the prides of Islamic architecture in his book Iranian Architecture, mentioning its unique tilework.
