Khorramabad Mountain Forest Park

Makhmal Kooh Forest Park is one of the natural parks of Khorramabad, located in the northern part of the city.

Introduction:
Makhmal Kooh Forest Park is located 15 kilometers from the Khorramabad-Al-Shatar road and covers an area of 500 hectares.
Makhmal Kooh is over 1900 meters high and is known by this name due to its special lichen cover.
This mountain is located in a valley also known as the Shabikhon Gorge, through which the lush plain of Al-Shatar is connected to the provincial capital.
This gorge has witnessed historical events, including the capture of Khorramabad by Shah Abbas Safavi in the war between him and Shahvardi Khan.
Shabikhon Waterfall is also located in this area, which doubles its appearance.
Makhmal Kooh has a sedimentary texture and its lichens turn green in seasons when there is a lot of rainfall, which is very spectacular.
The forest park is geologically considered part of the Eastern Zagros and dates back to the Cenozoic era.
