Located in Kerman Province, with an area of ​​more than twenty-two thousand square meters, the Rayan Citadel is the second largest brick building in the world after the Bam Citadel, which hosts thousands of domestic and foreign tourists every year. This work, called the Rayan Castle, was registered as one of the national monuments of Iran on April 1, 1966, with registration number 12867.

Rayan Citadel

Introduction:
The Rayan Citadel of Kerman, located southwest of the current city of Rayan, is in the architectural style of the Sassanid period.
The city of Rayan is located 100 kilometers southeast of Kerman and on the slopes of Mount Hezar.
The Rayan Citadel was one of the fortresses of Mirza Hossein Khan (Rayani) during the reign of Nader Shah Afshar and his son Mohammad Ali Khan during the Zand dynasty. Due to Mirza Hossein Khan’s popularity, this citadel is called the Mirza Hossein Khan Citadel in many sources.
The Rayan Citadel is about 20 minutes away from the Rayan Waterfall.

Building details:
The castle’s layout is almost square and decorated with several towers around it.
The castle is surrounded by a fence that is more than ten meters high.
The only entrance to the castle is from the eastern front, which leads to the inner courtyard with a large and magnificent gate.
Kerman’s Arg Rayn Citadel was divided into three parts: Khan’s residence, noble residence, and commoner’s residence.
The castle’s elements include the bazaar, the governor’s residence, noble houses, four warehouses, the fire temple, and commoner’s quarters.
Its general materials are raw brick.
Parts of this old castle have collapsed over time. Its restoration began in 1995, and the parts of the bazaar, the governor’s residence, four warehouses, the fire temple of the Zorkhane, and the noble house of the steward have been reconstructed.
